Stained Glass Fundamentals
Wednesdays, June 4 and 11, 6-10 P.M.
Wednesdays, July 9 and 16, 6-10 P.M.; $65 for 2 classes
Instructor: Phyllis Cline
$65 for both days

If you have always wanted to learn how to work in stained glass, now’s a good time. You will learn to cut, assemble, solder, and finish a copper foil method stained glass project in eight hours. All materials provided, but call or email CREATE for a list of suggested items to bring. You’ll be amazed at the professional ppearing project that you can make, and you can continue on with bigger and better projects in Phyllis’s Stained Glass Workshops. This fundamentals class will repeat two weeks each month, June and July. See samples of Phyllis’s work at CREATE. Pre-registration required so materials and glass can be ordered.

Teresa's Beads & More Bracelet

New instructor Teresa Carbono has a great collection of semi-precious stone beads, glass beads, wood beads, and metal beads that she is willing to share. These bracelets are securely strung with safety clasps. Class cost includes beads, clasps, and cording. A great beginner’s project for students 14 and older. Examples at CREATE.

 

Poetry Workshop
Wednesdays, June 18, 25, July 16, 23, 6:30- 8 PM

“Everything has been said but not everyone has said it.” So it’s your turn. Learn to create your own writing style in a non-threatening workshop environment. Poetry is part art and part craft. Learn how to get from “inspiration” to finished poem; how to improve and evaluate your writing and even get published. Review the “nuts and bolts” of putting a poem together. Learn to revise your work and bring it to a satisfying level. Get ideas for starting new poems and finishing old ones. Bring a poem you have written or one you admire to the first meeting.

 
Your Very Own Scarecrow
Thursday, June 19, 6-9 PM, $24
Instructor: Sherry Mays

You have enjoyed Sherry’s twig birdhouse baskets, gourd baskets, and twined garlic/onion baskets classes. Now Sherry will guide you in constructing your own scarecrow using recycled “stuff.” “Body” and “stuff” provided. Face will be painted in class. Bring a suit of clothes and hat about large kids’ size to men’s small for your ‘crow.’ Great for the garden or ‘whatever.’
 
Watercolor with Shirley

We continue the 3rd Friday of the month watercolor class with Shirley Bird Wright whose watercolors will also be CREATE’s July and August Individual Exhibit. Basics and Beyond. There’s always something new. Thrill yourself with evidence of your own artistry! Join Shirley in an all-day class. Beginners as well as advanced painters are invited to share, experiment, and have fun. Shirley’s “techie” degree in Visual Media brings another perspective to her excitement about watercolor. Shirley provides demonstrations, hands-on work, and one-on-one advice. You’ll need brushes, paint, and Arches Watercolor 140 lb. paper. Supplies are available for purchase at the class. Another plus, Shirley is now a certified Terry Madden instructor. Pre-register or just drop in for this class!
 
Gourd Birdhouse

Dream Catcher Magic

Create your own 8-inch dream catcher with beads and feathers
and hung with a leather throng. If you’ve never tried this great
craft, here’s a chance to make a beautiful item that is easier than

Beginning and Intermediate Drawing
Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, 10 to 3; lunch noon-
1; $70 for 2 days
Instructor: R. (Bob) Stem

R. (Bob) Stem has been making his living and teaching art for over thirty years and loves to get his students excited about making art. Bob travels all over the western United States doing art shows and painting and drawing. His work has been shown at the Oil Painters of America national show, the Salon International show, the Florida invitational and others. He has won several awards and one of his paintings was chosen to be in the Toppenish Western Art Show. Please visit his web site www.rstem.com to see more of his work. Bob will demonstrate and teach the basics of contour drawing, gesture drawing, basic shapes, shading and texture, linear and aerial perspective, and composition. Supply List: Students will need a large drawing pad at least 14 x 17 and pencils— Ebony pencils are a good choice. Class limited: pre-register now.

 

Burnt Brown Paper Bag Art

Turn recycled brown paper grocery bags into art! Cindy has created beautiful metallic appearing pins and table decorations with just paper, glue, and a candle! For CREATE’s “Christmas in July” activity, Cindy will be teaching us how to make angels and more. Three classes required to complete each step in the process. Pastel Chalk Bisque for the Holidays

You may have seen Cindy’s pastel bisque angels at the 2007 CREATE Artists’ Shop. Now you can learn to use pastel chalks to
decorate your own bisque holiday figurines with a subtle, soft

Heirloom Santa
Monday and Tuesday, July 14 and 15, 3 – 9 PM, $78
Instructor: Sherry Mays

Create a Santa like the ones you’ve seen in magazines selling for hundreds of dollars. Sherry gives step-by-step guidance as you put life into the face YOU sculpt from polymer clay. Learn to use an armature and make a one of-a-kind 23-inch tall standing Santa. You provide fabric and embellishments to clothe your Santa. Fee includes pattern, clay, armature, and base. Class requires some hand or machine sewing work at home on Monday night. Call or email CREATE for a suggested materials list. See a sample of Sherry’s Santa at CREATE. Fish Frenzy Workshop
Saturday, July 19, 10 AM-1PM, $10

Fish Frenzy has come to Newport and Oldtown! Purchase your own 4-foot plywood fish blank or your own 18-inch guppy blank and join the fun of street art. Completed fish will be displayed in Newport and Oldtown from August 15 to September 15. Awards will be given, and each artist takes his or her own fish home after the display. Need a little inspiration for decorating your fish? Pat will offer ideas and hints and help you make your fish truly individual. CREATE has paints; you bring other embellishments.

partner in this project is the Newport/Oldtown Chamber of Commerce.

 
Bath Salts in a Decorative Bottle
Saturday, July 19, 1-3 PM, $18
Instructor: Teresa Carbono

Learn to make scented and colored bath salts; then decorate a
unique-shaped glass bottle to display your work. Teresa will have
a nice selection of bottles and embellishments to ensure that your project will be the perfect gift for someone or for yourself! Bring a large glass or stainless steel bowl. All other materials provided.
 
Needle Felted 3D Santa Ornament
Sunday, July 20, 1-4 PM, $40
Instructor: Diane Balbi

Students loved Diane’s needle-felted bunnies; now you can needle-felt your own Santa head ornament with face detailing using only wool roving and felting needles. Diane will walk you through, step-by-step, creating this heirloom for your tree. Santa is approximately 9 inches tall. All materials are provided—wool roving, felting needles, foam felting base, and instructions.

Santa Teddy Bear Ornament

Love teddy bears? Love Santa? Diane will teach you to needle-felt your own Santa Teddy Bear ornament for your tree or as a package decoration. Let your imagination be your guide. Concrete Birdbath
Friday, July 25, TIME TO BE ARRANGED TO FIT STUDENT
NEDS, $35 for two day class
Instructor: Lucy Bauer

This class is held off-site. Lucy will teach you to make your own cement birdbath from rhubarb, cabbage, or other large fresh leaves the first day. After the birdbath is cured, students will return for finishing their projects. Wear old clothes and enjoy the day “playing in mud.” Pre-register now and bring a friend or two. Whimsical Glass Beaded Bracelet with Handmade Beads

String a whimsical glass beaded bracelet with beads handmade by teacher Janelle Zorko. Janelle has been making glass beads for 4 years and has applied her sculptural skills to the tiny snowman, gingerbread man, Christmas lights and tree in the bracelet. Cozy Fleece Blanket
Tuesday, August 5, 10 AM – 1 PM, $20
Instructor: Teresa Carbono

It’s still hot outside, but you know the weather will cool off soon.
Make your own cozy fleece blanket or throw with 2 yards of print
fleece yardage and 2 yards of coordinating solid color fleece yardage. Teresa will teach you the easy knotting method that makes this blanket super warm and durable. Once you know how make this knotted blanket, you can finish it at home. You bring the fleece yardage (available at Ben Franklin in Oldtown and several fabric stores in Spokane or Sandpoint). No sewing needed. This is a great sit-down project.
